is unique.
It might be fair to go one step further and suggest that Haldimand as a county is a special place to be.
More and more it becomes evident just how much citizens in this area care about their neighbours and the region as a whole. The interaction isn't always direct but every single day the ebb and flow of aid runs as strongly as the Grand River. It's all about caring, heart and a desire to make things better.
The froth of support seems to be cyclical in nature. One support group helps another and they turn around and help another organization. It's the great Karmic wheel on a municipal level. The citizens of Haldimand and Dunnville should be proud of what they accomplish for each other, not just for themselves. If only that selfless attitude could be applied everywhere. Bigger communities stand to learn from this example.
Take Toronto for example. It's close to being almost the complete opposite to the Dunnville area.
They boast a high population but things couldn't really get much worse at the top.
It could be a lack of desire, a lack of passion or maybe sometimes it just isn't there.
Willpower, heart, drive, call it what you will but they all translate to the same thing, effort.
I'm not saying that big cities don't have a sense of community or good volunteers and aid people but something is lost in translation on such a big stage. Large groups of people tend to become indifferent to each other over large periods of time. Not all, but some of that personal involvement that comes from a small town is lost.
Why is it that small communities are able to so effectively pull themselves together? It's thanks in large part to the neighbour factor. You tend to help those you know personally and Dunnville is conducive to personal contact.
It's nice to see so much good will and cooperation headed into Remembrance Day and the more festive holidays. I hope that this continues and grows as the months get colder.
Take pride Dunnville. Take Pride Haldimand.
As usual our caring and effort will carry our community through the winter and hard times. If only bigger cities could learn from their smaller, more intimate, provincial brothers and sisters our country would be a better place.
